The wonderful work in Carlsbad !!

We woke up bright and early Saturday morning. I waited in line for the bathroom and in all honesty, I never had to wait too long. I was impressed with people’s ability to get in and out quickly. After talking with Tom Bemus about our plans for Carlsbad we headed out to the cave. By we, I mean Skinny, Lee Ann, Tammy, William, Dan, Matt, Dennis, Sharon, and me.
Our job was to put in a remote radio, a radio cable and an electrical line. I’m not going to lie, everyone worked quite well as a team putting in the line. We drug out tons of wire around the cave to get the line where it needed to be. I put on some muscle too, or at least I was a little sore by the end of the day. After we got all the wire out we realized that it was a bit too much. Once again we all got in our places and rolled back another 100 feet of extra wire or so….I really have no idea how much it was. We tucked the usable wire into areas of the cave so tourist couldn’t see it too well. I was impressed with how good everyone did with hiding the wire. When we walked around other parts of the cave the wiring was very noticeable. If I could, I would have given everyone a plaque on the wall for their wire hiding!
After much work some of the ladies left to prepare a "yummy" meal for the rest of us. I would say the rest of us helped put the remote radio box on top of Iceberg Rock, but I just...went for moral support. I did go up but I didn’t do much work. It was good vertical practice for me, though I did help knock a light out. It would have gone out anyway by others kicking down rocks but I didn’t want them to feel bad so I went ahead and knocked a big rock into the light. As far as I’m aware, William and Matt did great carrying up the remote radio box. I could barely pick it up so I’m not sure how they even got it to the top of Iceberg.
After we all got up to Iceberg, I tried to take a quick nap as some of the guys did their thing, hiding the box and whatnot. It was a great view looking out in the cave. I know the lights weren’t bright and we couldn’t see very far but just looking at the cave and thinking about how it could possible look so amazing and be so strong, makes me see God in it all!
A little later on, we carried the old wire out with some other items and ended up back at the huts sometime before 8. Again, I'm really not sure about the time. We played a great card game that I’m getting better at and played mafia. It was fun getting to hang out together and getting to know the other cavers. It’s funny what you learn about people outside of the meetings...and inside the caves! --eof--
